After a year like 2020, there has never been a better time for a kitchen refresh. If you’re planning to redesign your kitchen this year, it’s a great opportunity to add some bold, exciting colour to your space. While the chic white wall look will certainly never go out of style, 2021 is going to be all about deep, sophisticated greens, blues, subtle greys and blacks.

5 Kitchen Colour Trends
Minster Green
This year, deep greens are going to be a hugely popular kitchen colour!
In fact, our Minster Kitchen was House & Home Magazine’s most popular image on Pinterest last July! This super sophisticated hue will give your kitchen a calm, tranquil aura. We recommend pairing a dark green kitchen with off black appliances, like our client’s gorgeous Lacanche range, and gold or brass hardware. This colour palette is striking and memorable without being overwhelming on the senses. You’ll love kicking back in this kitchen with the family after a long day — it will be the perfect place to hide away from the world and cook up concoctions with loved ones.
Hague Blue
If you’re a fan of deep navy’s and rich, handsome blues... you’re in luck.
Blue cabinetry, like our client’s Hague Blue kitchen, is very much on trend right now. Paired with brass accents, crisp whites and rustic, natural woods, our client’s space has a mature, traditional feel that’s perfect for families who want a timeless look that will feel current and fresh for years to come.
Benjamin Moore Onyx and Hood in Opaque Black Stain
Black cabinetry is a classic, yet brave, and exciting move that’s clean, crisp and exudes contemporary luxury. We particularly love how it pairs with this handsome walnut. Many people get intimidated by the thought of black walls because they assume that the deep, dark colour will make their space feel darker and smaller than it should. However, this bold look can actually have an incredibly calming, soothing and airy effect.
DESIGN TIP: black cabinetry can feel quite masculine (not necessarily a bad thing!), but to soften this colour palette in our Birch project, we used Lilac marble from Antolini, Italy (available through Select Surfaces Corp.) with its beautiful subtle lilac undertones & black veining to add a feminine ease to the space.
Stonnington Grey & Kendall Charcoal
For those who like simple, monochromatic colour schemes, grey can be a wonderful alternative for those of you who are looking to stray from white walls… but not stray too far! Not to mention, greys are an incredibly diverse and versatile colour. A light, soft grey will give your room an airy, spacious feel, while blending cohesively with your existing decor. A dark, deep grey, on the other hand, will instantly give your room a more sophisticated, rich and luxurious feel.
Our South Forest Hill project is a combination of the two. The island features a hand brush finish in Kendall Charcoal, while the surrounding cabinetry is Stonnington Gray.
Chantilly Lace
Okay… you didn’t think we could write an entire kitchen colour blog without at least mentioning white somewhere, did you?! White kitchens are classic, timeless, crisp, fresh, clean - shall we go on? They will simply never go out of style! Our Watercolours project is light, delicate, airy and elegant, allowing brass accents to truly pop.
