Spring has sprung, so today we’re sharing how to clean your kitchen cabinets so that you can get a head start on spring cleaning! Let’s face it; kitchens are high traffic – and well loved - areas so they can get pretty grimy... fast! Every now and then, a deep clean in the kitchen can work wonders. Getting into all of the nooks and crannies in the kitchen can be quite a pain — and nowhere is trickier than inside the kitchen cabinets.
Today, we’ll be talking about how to give your kitchen cabinets a serious deep clean that will leave the whole room feeling refreshed.
Gather Some Materials
For a proper deep cabinet clean, you’re going to require a few more materials than your typical cloth and cleaning spray. The following materials will definitely come in handy:
● An old soft toothbrush
● Stainless steel cleaner
● A soft cloth
● A toothpick
● Gentle soap
● White vinegar
● Stain remover
● Hot water
● A dry cloth
Start at the Top
As a general rule, always start cleaning at the top of your cupboards and work your way down. Begin by emptying all of the contents of your cabinets and placing them to one side. Then, start with the interiors of the cabinets at the top. This way, if any dirt falls, you’ll be sure to get to it as you move your way down.
Get Into the Awkward Places
Use your toothbrush to clean those awkward corners and crevices in your cupboards. For a super deep clean, layer a disinfectant wipe over a toothpick, and glide the toothpick between any gaps in the corners of your cabinets to get at the built-up dirt that tends to get stuck there.
Careful with any cleaning products that could remove the paint finish - if in doubt, avoid and just use soap & a damp cloth
Wipe Away Your Cleaner to Avoid Damaging Your Cabinetry
As you clean the inside and outside of your cabinetry, be sure to use your dry cloth to wipe away excess cleaner or water from your surfaces. If you leave some chemicals on your cabinets for too long, they may become damaged or discoloured or cause the finish to peel.
Don’t Forget the Cabinetry Hardware
Spend some extra time on your cabinetry hardware. Do a little research about what types of cleaners are best for your type of hardware. For instance, a stainless steel cleaner will leave silverware looking polished and shiny while water vinegar and salt may be best for copper.
TIP: Universal Stone cleaner is a great, all natural cleaner that can be used on a variety of surfaces. Be sure to test it before using on any surface to ensure it does not discolour or damage your cabinetry, hardware etc.
It's also great for cleaning stubborn burned on stains/food on cast iron cookware!
Clean Off Reusable Bottles
Once your cabinets are sparkling clean, turn your attention to the contents of your cabinet. Many of our clients use reusable Mason jars or bottles for storing food. Be sure to clean all of these containers thoroughly — you won’t want to put dirty jars into your clean cupboard!
If you’re feeling extra thorough, you can even wipe down non-reusable food containers.
Think About Food Storage Options
If you don’t use reusable food containers, during your cabinet deep clean is always a good time to start! Think about how you can make your cabinets more organized and streamlined by switching to uniform reusable containers.
